You鈥檙e in high school鈥攈urray!聽 It feels like a huge accomplishment to get through your first day (and it is鈥攇o you!), but there are some things to keep in mind as you start at a new school.
Don鈥檛 bite off more than you can chew.聽 Figure out how much time it will take you to do your homework before you sign up for Student Council, Chess Club, and the yearbook staff.聽 It鈥檚 great to be involved, particularly in a new school, and it can help you make new friends.聽 But you don鈥檛 want to feel so overwhelmed that you feel like you can鈥檛 accomplish everything.
Watch.聽 And listen.聽 Observe those around you the first couple of weeks at your new school.聽 Figure out who is serious about homework, who is always getting into trouble, and who is helpful.聽 Emulate those who have the qualities you would like to have, and make sure that you don鈥檛 fall into the bad habits of others around you.
Choose your friends wisely.聽 This is, of course, one of the hardest parts of high school.聽 For many, the friends they make in high school will be friends for life.聽 That being said, do you want to be friends with the person who cuts class?聽 That person will likely not be very interesting to talk to later in life.聽 Surround yourself with people who are kind, hard-working, and 蹿耻苍!听
High school is a major chapter in your life and it鈥檚 important to enjoy it.聽 It will be easier to enjoy, however, if you feel like you鈥檙e prepared for it.聽 Take a deep breath, ask for help when you need it, and make the most of it!
